Kamo
Kamo and their distant cousins the smeet were the fourth and fifth sophonts to join the galactic comunity. They origionated from the same planet. Kamo were primarily nomatic, with two major cultural hubs, the northern and southern routes. The kamo of the Southern Route would spend Southern winter in mountains near the equator, and migrate to the south pole come sothern summer where they would nest. Winter Route kamo would spend Northern winter in the same tropical mountain range, and then migrate north to nest in the Norhtern summer, while the Southern path were in the tropics. The two routes were aware of each other, and there were small communities, mostly composed of older individuals who would struggle to fly the migratory path anymore, that would spend all year in the tropics and take advantage of trading oppertunities this allowed them, but for the most part they didn't interact much.
Within each route, there were many distinct cultures. Individual flocks could reach thousands of members, and there were thousands of flocks in each route. There were also stray isolated populations formed by flocks, or parts of flocks, that ended up too far away from the main continent to return to the mainland by wing, either by getting caught in storms or by fucking around with boats.
Kamo have four biological sexes do to a super mutation gene, similar to the Earthern white throated sparrow. There are two varients of each sex, a curly crested varient and a straight crested varient. Conventional parings are formed by one curly crested individual with a straight crested varient. There are indivuiduals who choose to procreate with their same phenotype, but this is rare. In general, there cross phenotype cross sex pairs are the most common, followed by cross phenotype same sex, followed by same phenotype cross sex, and finally same phenotype same sex pairings.
