The world of Fate's Fabric

Fate's Fabric is a science fiction story taking place in a galactic community within an area of approximately 50 light years of the milky way. Faster then light communication is possible, but moving matter faster then light is not, with the exception of warp gates - massive constructs that orbit stars and create temporary warp holes between each other. This allows people to travel between settled star systems very quickly, but getting from the warp gate to a planet can still take a number of weeks.

The galactic community is composed of 11 species of organic sophonts as well as numerous artificial intelligences. The first two members of the galactic community, the click worms and the silent ones first made contact approximately 11 thousand years ago. There are innumerable cultures within the galactic community with many different forms of governance and economic systems. Most cultures have a heavy focus on sustainability, there are plenty of problems in the galaxy but people have access to the things they need to survive.
